Becoming Catholic for Adults
The Rite of Christian Initiation (R.C.I.A.) is a process for sharing the Catholic faith with adults who are:
- Not baptized but are feeling God's call in their lives.
- Baptized in other faiths and feel drawn to the Catholic Church.
- Baptized in the Catholic faith, but have not received First Communion or Confirmation.
- Baptized and confirmed, but want to update their knowledge of the Catholic faith.
How the process works:
- We begin with an introduction to the Catholic faith and community. No commitment is required.
- Next comes a period of learning the fundamentals of the faith and formation into the Catholic community.
- Spiritual preparation then intensifies as we examine our lives and the changes we are called to make. This is the time of final preparation for receiving the sacraments.
- At the Easter Vigil, new members are initiated into the faith.
- Then begins a period of continued learning and reflection.
When and where:
Weekly meetings are held in the Religious Education Center, 3440 Halsted Boulevard. To register or to get additional information, call the Office of Faith Formation.
